As the mother of three boys, Hilary knows the terror a parent feels when there is an active shooter alert at their children’s school. In the past six years, her sons’ high school and university were put on lockdown more than once due to a shooting threat, where both of her sons had to shelter-in-place when shots were fired on campus. Hilary believes our most fundamental duty as leaders and parents is to keep our children safe. Children should be excited to go to school, the movies or shopping mall, not fearful for their safety.
Hilary knows that we don’t have to choose between keeping our children safe and responsible gun ownership. She supports common-sense violence prevention policies like universal background checks, banning ghost guns and assault weapons, closing loopholes that allow abusers and criminals to access firearms, and expanding waiting periods to help address the heartbreakingly high suicide rate in this country.
