Hilary Franz’s Pacific Northwest roots run deep.
As a single parent, her father struggled with finding childcare, so she spent much time after school and on weekends in the city hall and fire hall where he worked.
It was there she learned the value of service, dedication and purpose. The heroes in the fire station taught her that progress comes from working together and putting people first, inspiring her to a career in public service. She put herself through college, taking out student loans and working as a hotel worker, a caregiver for children and adults with disabilities, and a community mental health crisis counselor.
Following in the footsteps of her grandparents.
She raised her three boys and cared for her father on a small farm in Kitsap County. On the farm, Hilary instilled in her boys the same lessons that were instilled in her: to treat others as you want to be treated, if you take care of the land it will take care of you, and to believe that our greatest potential is unlocked by building each other up, not by tearing each other down.
Washington’s Sixth Congressional District is Hilary’s home.
She has dedicated her career to serving our communities – as an environmental land use attorney, a non-profit leader and a Bainbridge Island City Council Member, protecting our natural resources and public lands, expanding transportation and clean energy investments, and building affordable and workforce housing.
As Washington’s Commissioner of Public Lands
She has worked in every corner of the Sixth Congressional District, responding to a rapidly changing climate from wildfires and floods to ocean acidification and sea level rise, growing economic development and jobs in traditional and new industries, building affordable and workforce housing, and generating hundreds of millions of dollars for schools, public safety, health, housing and human services.
Hilary is running for Congress to make bold progress on the biggest challenges Washington is facing.
To bring bold transformative leadership to address the threat of climate change, respond to our housing crisis, lower costs for working families, and stand up for our democracy and reproductive rights.
Hilary has a leadership style that is rare
This is why Congressman Derek Kilmer asked her to run for the Sixth Congressional District and supports her along with former Congressman Norm Dicks and a long list of leaders and organizations across the district.
