Tacoma, Washington – On Thursday evening, the Grays Harbor County Democrats voted to endorse Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz for the Sixth Congressional District. Franz secured the unanimous vote of members present, and is the only candidate in the race to be endorsed by her home Democratic Party organization. Last month, the 26th Legislative District Democrats voted to name Franz an approved candidate.
Franz would be the first member of Congress to reside in Grays Harbor County.
“I’m so proud to have the endorsement of the Grays Harbor Democrats,” Franz said. “The Olympic Peninsula deserves a representative who understands our issues and who has created and protected jobs here. I look forward to continuing to work on behalf of every Grays Harbor resident in Congress.”
Franz is also endorsed by the seat’s incumbent, Rep. Derek Kilmer, and his predecessor, Rep. Norm Dicks; 27 labor unions; 10 Washington state Tribes; the National Organization for Women PAC; and has secured more endorsements from in-district elected officials than any candidate in this race. She has raised more than $820,000 over the course of her campaign, breaking two fundraising records for this district and outraising her nearest opponent by 55 percent.
About Hilary Franz
Franz’s roots in the Sixth District run deep – she grew up spending time and working on her grandparents’ farm near the Tacoma Mall, where they first settled in 1938. She lives in Grays Harbor County, raised her three boys in Kitsap County, and has a long history of public service in the district. Prior to serving as Lands Commissioner, Franz served on the Bainbridge Island City Council from 2008-2011, where she secured significant federal investments in transportation infrastructure, developed affordable housing policies, secured protections on critical fish and wildlife habitat, and launched a nationally recognized energy efficiency program.
